Performance and Handling
With specially designed engine components, such as forged internal rods, pistons and crank, the 2.0 TFSI® engine takes advantage of significantly higher boost of 17.4 psi, generating 265hp and 258 lb-ft. of torque. Mated to the rapid-fire S tronic® dual-clutch transmission with launch control, 0.2 shift times help the TTS race from 0-60 in a mere 4.9 seconds at a top speed of 155 MPH. It’s pure performance in a pure sportscar package. With 265hp, 258 lb-ft. of torque and impressive efficiency to match, it’s no wonder why the 2.0 TFSI® was named one of Ward’s “10 Best Engines” for the fifth year in a row.
Audi valvelift system helps elevate the performance characteristics of variable valve timing. The result is smooth power buildup, instantaneous throttle response and up to a 7 percent reduction in fuel consumption. Audi valvelift system intelligently varies the lift and duration of engine exhaust valves in response to engine load and power needs. Optimizing air management, Audi valvelift system helps create maximum torque across a broad range of RPM without sacrificing efficiency.
The concept behind one of the world’s most advanced transmissions is simple to understand and thrilling to experience: near-constant power through lightning-quick gearshifts. Utilizing two clutches, S tronic® ensures you’re in the gear you select the instant you select it. There is no loss of momentum, no loss of RPM, and at a mere 0.2 seconds between shifts, no lag between gears. Together with Audi launch control for faster off-the-line acceleration, the TTS races from 0-60 in a mere 4.9 seconds.
Permanent all-wheel drive systems are not created equal and they certainly don’t perform that way either. Quattro is essentially a dynamic hydraulic system that progressively engages depending on anticipated wheel slippage, thanks to a number of electronic controls. For instance, if a loss of traction is imminent, the system will actively manage the vehicle’s available power and torque, distributing power to the front and rear wheels to provide optimal traction.
In normal driving situations, quattro distributes the power between front and rear axles enhancing the driving dynamics while maintaining optimum control. quattro can also shift power 100 percent to the rear or front when conditions demand. Constantly assessing grip, quattro helps to ensure the best possible combination of traction and handling, regardless of the road conditions.
The exclusive lightweight design of the aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF®) technology offers a number of significant advantages over the competition. By utilizing a combination of aluminum and steel, hybrid ASF technology significantly reduces vehicle weight, enhances body strength, and increases handling. The weight savings of ASF offers a couple of distinct advantages. As a point of comparison, a conventional steel frame TTS would weigh 48 percent more. Naturally, this weight savings translates into greater fuel efficiency as well as better acceleration and braking, because less mass needs to be moved and stopped.
Thanks to the use of aluminum, the body is stiffer, resulting in higher torsional. This stiffness enhances handling by enabling the car to be more responsive, more precise and more stable. Another benefit of the extensive use of aluminum is its ability to absorb vibration creating a smoother, quieter ride.
Enhancing the overall performance of the TTS, the 10mm lowered chassis and S sport suspension is specially tuned for dynamic handling. Firm springs and dampers provide direct and precise contact with the road while thicker sway bars offer additional support, reducing overall body roll during hard cornering. Thanks to the integration of lightweight aluminum materials throughout the front and rear suspension, unsprung weight is reduced, allowing for rapid suspension response. The result is a performance-oriented yet comfortable ride in any driving scenario.
The finely tuned MacPherson front suspension components increase ride quality by isolating road harshness and vibration from the cabin. The overall MacPherson design saves weight by eliminating upper control arms. This helps reduce unsprung mass at each wheel, allowing the suspension to respond more rapidly. The net effect is a driving experience that is extremely responsive, smooth and predictable. It is handling that has become an Audi hallmark.
The suspension system of the TTS Coupe and Roadster is further enhanced with the advanced technology of Audi magnetic ride, which offers instantaneous driver control at the touch of a button. By utilizing an advanced magnetically charged fluid whose viscosity continuously adapts to driving dynamics and can be controlled electromagnetically, the driver can select from ‘Normal’ or ‘Sport’ modes to customize the TTS Coupe ride and handling. The result is improved driving dynamics, reduced body movement, better road handling and enhanced overall ride comfort

Safety
Audi has implemented a number of ingenious features to help maximize braking effectiveness. In wet conditions, the brake disc wiping system gently pulses the brakes to help dissipate water buildup. Keeping the discs as dry as possible helps promote the most effective braking. Additionally, the brake assist system is able to detect an attempt at full braking and apply full stopping power when required. The advantage is that braking distance is significantly reduced.
The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helps keep the vehicle traveling in its intended direction by utilizing ABS, the traction control of ASR and the electronic brake force distribution of EBD. Specifically, when ESC detects loss of traction, it automatically cuts the throttle and applies the brakes to help “steer” the vehicle where you intend to go. Braking is automatically applied to each wheel: at the outer front wheel to mitigate oversteer, or the inner rear wheel to mitigate understeer.
The exclusive lightweight design of Audi Space Frame (ASF®) technology offers a number of significant advantages over the competition. By utilizing a combination of aluminum and steel, hybrid ASF technology significantly reduces vehicle weight, enhances body strength, and increases handling.
Passive safety measures include the safety belt system, the airbags*, the rigid occupant cell and the crumple zones at the front of the vehicle. Passive Safety is one distinct benefit of ASF technology. The TT and TTS feature a number of strategically placed crumple zones, designed to compress during a collision and absorb the deformation energy from the impact. Steel used in the rear allows for better weight distribution and handling, while the steel doors are augmented with aluminum impact beams for added protection. Additionally, weight savings results in better handling, acceleration and braking, enabling the car to be more responsive, stable and precise.
The six standard, second-generation airbags provide an additional measure of safety. They include front-impact airbags for the driver and passenger and are designed to help protect the head. Seat-mounted, side-impact airbags for the front seat occupants are designed to help protect the thorax in a collision. And the side-curtain airbags offer front and rear occupants head protection in the event of a side collision or rollover.
